Black Country pub not showing England's World Cup bronze medal match after fans behaved badly
Bosses at the public house near Dudley say a few fans caused trouble during World Cup opening times
The landlady of a Black Country public house has decided against showing England’s World Cup bronze medal match against France on Saturday night (July 18) due to the bad behaviour of some customers during previous games.
Football-crazy fans have been flocking to The Cabin in Alderwood Precinct in Sedgley to follow the Three Lions’ progress, but the pub has now said that due to the intimidating “behaviour of a small number” it has taken the decision to close the doors ahead of the third/fourth place playoff which is due to start at 10pm BST in Miami.

The pub posted on its Facebook page: “We will not be showing the third place play-offs which is sad, but unfortunately true. Following the behaviour of a small number of customers over the past couple of weeks, we have made the difficult decision that last orders will be called at 8.45pm.
“We genuinely regret having to make this change. However, The Cabin is and always will be a family and community establishment and protecting that environment has to come first.
“We want The Cabin to be a place where families, friends, neighbours, staff and customers can come together and feel safe and welcome. Violence, aggression threatening behaviour or intimidation of any kind will not be tolerated.
“The actions of a small minority should never be allowed to negatively impact the experience or safety of the wider community who support us week after week.
“We appreciate the understanding and continued support of our customers and community. We hope that, by taking these steps, we can continue to make The Cabin the safe, friendly and welcoming local pub that it is intended to be.
“The staff who have had to deal with the pure nonsense deserve to enjoy just one match.”
Excited residents have been flocking to the pub off Northway to watch the games and were joined by the Express & Star for the tough group game against Panama on June 27 which England won 2-0.
