Wolverhampton battery recycling firm Recyclus launches crowdfunding campaign
A battery recycling firm has launched a crowdfunding campaign.
Wolverhampton-based Recyclus has opened the campaign on the Crowdcube platform to support its expansion plans by purchasing additional processing equipment designed to optimise the output of the materials it recycles.
This will increase the value derived from each tonne processed Funding will also be used to support general working capital across the business.
It is currently in the ‘early access' phase of the crowdfunding campaign so no final fundraising target figure has been listed.
Recyclus specialises in recycling lithium-ion batteries, the kind typically found in portable electronics, electric vehicles and e-bikes, and also the recovery of metal resources in batteries.
It said it was aiming to strengthen the UK's domestic supply chains for critical battery materials.
Recyclus was established in 2019 and its lithium-ion recycling facility in Wolverhampton became operational in summer 2023.
The company, based in the Heath Town area of the city, said it had experienced "significant commercial growth" over the past year, scaling its operations at pace and posting record financial performance.
Year-on-year revenue increased by 179 per cent in 2025, with July and August representing the company's first profitable months, while December delivered the strongest month in the company's history for both revenue and contract wins.
Last year, it formed a consortium with Jaguar Land Rover, Warwick Manufacturing Group and Mint Innovation to support innovation in battery recycling and material recovery while advancing domestic capability.
Recyclus said the UK was relying on imported battery materials as it strived to boost its electrification across transport, energy storage and infrastructure.
It is aiming to address this challenge by transforming battery waste into a valuable resource and recovering valuable materials including so-called ‘black mass'.
Black Mass is a powdery substance that contains a mixture of valuable metals and compounds, including lithium, cobalt and nickel, which are essential for the production of new batteries.
Recycling batteries into black mass creates a sustainable loop where materials can be reused which will reduce long-term reliance on overseas supply chains.
Recyclus Group's chief executive Alex Stanbury said: "With electrification gathering pace all the time, the UK needs to rapidly strengthen its supply chain for critical battery materials.
"We're tackling this by recovering those much-needed materials from lithium-ion batteries and, after a record-breaking 2025, we're excited to be taking the next step in this mission.
"This crowdfunding raise will enable us to scale our operational capability and, by investing in additional plant equipment, we will significantly enhance the quality and yield of the materials we recover, enabling us to extract greater value from every tonne processed.
"This is not just about increasing capacity, it is about smarter, more efficient recovery that directly strengthens our revenue potential while supporting the development of a more resilient battery materials supply chain."
