Energy Saving Glass is a family-owned double-glazing manufacturer that supplies to both the public and trade. The new glass toughening machine (Mappi ATS 4.0 Eco Convection Furnace) will enable the business to produce high-quality, energy-efficient toughened glass from 4mm-19mm thickness. The new technology also automatically adjusts the machinery’s temperature enabling a quicker turnaround between production of different products, improving productivity.

The investment also gives the business the capability to diversify its services with bespoke glass manufacturing delivered in-house. Energy Saving Glass will now be able to supply a greater variety of glass products with cut outs and drilled holes, polished edges, bevelled edges in a variety of shapes. The business previously outsourced this service.

The machine will create 20 new jobs, ranging from administration and quality control, to glass cutting and machine operations.

Alex Walker, Director at Energy Saving Glass, said: “HSBC UK has supported us over the last 10 years as we have invested heavily in innovative, automated machinery. This has meant we have been able to grow our business, as well as safeguard and create jobs within the local area. This latest machine means we can control cost, service and quality more effectively, which is paramount to our customers. The support of our HSBC UK Relationship Manager, Stuart Smith, has really opened a door for our business and we look forward to being able to provide even more services for our customers.”

Stephen Peart, West Midlands business banking area director at HSBC UK, said: “With consumers increasingly focused on reducing the energy they consume, making small changes, such as energy efficient windows, is driving demand for high-quality window production. We’re delighted to have helped Energy Saving Glass respond to this demand with this new machine. It underlines the business’ position as a leader in window glass manufacturing and sets the firm up for a strong future.”

This deal is part of HSBC UK’s £1.1 billion lending fund to support small and medium-sized enterprises in the West Midlands.
