First look at how new Burntwood health centre could look as consultation launches

The new centre was supposed to be up and running by the end of last year.

Residents are being given a first look at how a long-awaited new healthcare centre could look, as a consultation has officially been launched.

Burntwood’s new health centre was promised to be up and running by the end of 2025, but no plans have ever been submitted.

The consultation for the new healthcare centre is the first step ahead of a formal planning application being submitted. It is now hoped that a proposal will be submitted in the summer, with construction potentially starting in February next year.

The indicative proposals detail the new health centre plans, which are currently being worked on but will include consulting rooms, treatment rooms and a large waiting area. The site off Milestone Way is also being developed into a care home with space allocated for three sports pitches.

Sean Bagguley, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for finance and resources, said: ”Now that the health centre plans have been drawn up we are moving as quickly as we can on behalf of the NHS.

“Despite the urgency to deliver this much-anticipated community asset, it’s important we follow the correct process and we hope everyone who has an interest in this project will take a moment to share their views.”

Fears had previously been raised that funding allocated by Lichfield District Council could be lost. In October 2025 Councillor Rob Strachan, cabinet member for finance and commissioning, warned that £1.15 million in Community Infrastructure Levy funding could be spent on other projects in the district if those responsible for the project did not “get on with it”.

The consultation documents stated: “The detailed design work for the health centre is currently being undertaken as the top priority for this planning submission. It is proposed to be located in the north-eastern part of the site adjacent to Milestone Way arranged around a central courtyard, with a predominately two-storey building with comprehensive facilities including consulting rooms, treatment rooms and a large waiting area.

A Care Home is proposed to be located within the north western part of the site, which will be submitted via an outline planning application with details to be brought forward at the next stage. At this stage, the care home is anticipated to be a predominately two storey building of a scale similar to the health centre.”

Residents have until 5pm on Thursday 14 May 2026 to submit feedback on the plans. Full details of the consultation and how to submit feedback can be found: https://www.knightsplc.com/burntwood-health-centre/
