Cutting Cristiano Ronaldo's hair: Bridgnorth barber and lifelong Manchester United fan completes 'trim of his career' with CR7 cut

A Bridgnorth barber has completed the 'trim of his career' after being asked to cut football legend Cristiano Ronaldo's hair.

Cal Newsome, 34, is no stranger to cutting footballers' hair, having been providing fresh trims for some of Manchester United's stars for the past few years.

But for the lifelong Red Devils fan, his latest job will likely never be beaten.

Cal, who runs Bull & Co Barbershop on Bridgnorth's Faraday Business Park, was flown to Dublin last week to cut Cristiano Ronaldo's hair.

Cal admitted he is still on "cloud nine" after what he says was undoubtedly his career highlight.

The chance to cut the Portuguese star's hair came through one of his regular clients, Ronaldo's compatriot the Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot.

The full-back messaged Cal last week asking if he wanted to "come and do the trim of [his] career".

Cal said he immediately knew what Dalot was asking - with the United star well aware of Cal's love of Cristiano.

There was no hesitation and Cal was soon flying his way to Dublin where he linked up with the Portuguese stars at their hotel, providing Dalot with a fresh trim ahead of the game, before getting to work on a cut for 'the GOAT' (greatest of all time).

Cal said the experience "didn't feel real".

The Bridgnorth barber said he does not normally get star-struck, but with Ronaldo, it was "obviously different".

Having grown up a United fan he said Ronaldo is a huge favourite, with the famous number 7 bursting onto the scene at Old Trafford as he developed into one of the greatest players the world has ever seen.

Cal said: "David Beckham was my favourite player when I was a kid but throughout my teenage years Ronaldo was always my favourite. I think he's arguably the best player of all time."

Cal said Ronaldo had been down to earth and "really cool" when he met him, saying they spoke about everything but football.

Asked if he was nervous about working on Ronaldo's hair, Cal said: "Cutting hair is like second nature to me so I didn't really have to worry about that sort of thing - I was more worried about saying the wrong thing!"

Cal gave the famous number 7 a buzz-cut on the top with a skin fade on the sides.

After the cut Dalot messaged to say his Portuguese team-mate was very happy with the trim, rounding off a perfect job for Cal.

He said: "Dalot messaged me after to say he was really happy with his hair which was really nice, that made my day."

While the haircut looked good Ronaldo wasn't quite as successful on the pitch, earning the first red card of his international career in the World Cup qualifier against the Republic of Ireland - although it meant Cal's handiwork got plenty of close-up air-time on TV and social media.

Now Cal's regular Bridgnorth customers are finding their hair is being cut by a barber to one of the most famous men on the planet.

He said: "Obviously everyone who comes in the shop wants to speak to me about it and it is almost like it didn't happen because it is such a surreal moment - I have to keep reminding myself it happened."
