The challenging 21-mile course takes in some of Shropshire’s most beautiful scenery.

The 54th annual Bridgnorth Walk and Marathon today (May 4) has seen hundreds return to the streets of the town to take on a gruelling challenge for good causes.

Organised by the Bridgnorth Lions, the event features a traditional 21.5-mile walk, a full marathon and family events.

The challenging route takes in some of the most beautiful Shropshire countryside - including a visit to the top of the 1,770ft Brown Clee Hill.

Groups and clubs joined the challenge, including the Bridgnorth Cricket and Hockey Club, Bridgnorth Spartans and Castlefields Primary School.

Among the 2026 walkers was 37-year-old Caroline Murphy from Alveley. Until last year, Caroline was housebound and bedbound, and had been for nearly 20 years due to a number of illnesses.

But this year Caroline has been lacing up her trainers to raise money for Andy’s Man Club - a male mental health charity - in memory of her friend, Ceri Collin.

Ceri, a keen musician and Merthyr Town football player, took his own life in October 2022 at just 39 years old. As of this morning, Caroline had raised £850 for the charity.

Each year, the Bridgnorth Walk raises around £100,000 for charities and good causes, and organisers said they hoped this year will be no different.
