Bonfires across West Midlands to make your night go with a bang

From community parks to stately homes – venues across the West Midlands are preparing to make sure bonfire night goes with a bang.

Firework displays are planned around the region to mark November 5 and thousands of families will be wrapping up warm to attend them.

One of the biggest events will be held at Himley Hall, near Dudley, which will this year be holding its annual display on November 9.

Around 20,000 people are expected to descend on the venue for what is believed to be the largest local authority show in the country.

The 30-minute display will be based around a sci-fi theme and music will be drawn from classics such as Doctor Who and The Matrix.

Sally Newell, Himley Hall estate manager, said: "We would urge people to come and join us at our spectacular display that is safer and better than holding one in their own at home."

A bus service to shuttle people to the event will be in operation.

Events have also been organised at Hickman Park in Bilston on November 1, and West Park in Wolverhampton, the following day.

Council chiefs behind the events say they will be family friendly with separate displays for children.

Other attractions on at the event will include a fun fair, food stalls and inflatables for guests.

On November 3, Weston Park will be throwing open its gates to welcome people for a giant bonfire and two fireworks displays. Free Radio will kick things off with its breakfast show team and food stalls, a licensed bar and a fun fair will be in the grounds for the enjoyment of the almost 10,000 expected guests.

West Midlands Safari Park in Bewdley has also organised its own firework festival this year, which will be taking place on November 9.

There will be late-night fun fair rides at the theme park, and a hog roast to help people stay warm while they are enjoying the show.

Staff at Alton Towers are preparing for their own firework event on November 8,9 and 10 which will also mark the end of the theme park's season.

Events are organised at Dartmouth Park, West Bromwich, Willenhall Memorial Park and the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley.
