Black Country Radio expands coverage across Walsall with launch on new DAB multiplex
More people will be able to hear the programming from Black Country Radio through the new DAB multiplex.
A community radio station has increased its reach across the Black Country after launching an exciting new chapter in Walsall.
Black Country Radio and Black Country Xtra have joined a new DAB multiplex, bringing a mix of music, local information and community-focused programming to thousands of new listeners across the borough.
The station said that joining the multiplex, which is a bundle of digital radio stations grouped together and broadcast on a single frequency, will significantly expand its reach and making it easier than ever for audiences across Walsall to tune in at home, in the car and on compatible smart devices.
The multiplex was launched at an event held on Thursday at Bescot Stadium, home of Walsall Football Club, attended by a number of local charities and community organisations, as well as the new Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Alan Fleming.
Since its launch, Black Country Radio has built a reputation for delivering engaging presenters, carefully curated music, local news, community features and support for charities, businesses and organisations across the region.
Sister station, Black Country Xtra is a platform for local people, community organisations and charities to curate their own radio shows and learn new skills, whilst promoting their message to listeners.
Station director Dave Brownhill said joining the new DAB multiplex enables the stations to strengthen their commitment to local broadcasting while introducing programming to an even wider audience.

He said: "This is a fantastic milestone for everyone involved.
“Launching on the new Walsall DAB multiplex means we can reach thousands of potential new listeners who may not have discovered us before.
“We're incredibly excited to become part of the daily lives of more people across Walsall, delivering great music, local stories and a genuine community-focused service.
“We can't wait to welcome our new listeners."
The station also sees the expansion as an opportunity to work more closely with local organisations, promote community events and provide an additional platform for businesses across Walsall to reach local audiences.
Keith Horsfall, Chairman of parent company, Waterfront Media CIC, said: "This is an important step in the continued growth of our stations.
“From the very beginning, our ambition has been to create a radio service that informs, entertains and supports the communities we serve.
“Broadcasting on the Walsall DAB multiplex allows us to extend that mission to even more people, and we're looking forward to building lasting relationships throughout the borough."
