A lorry driver died in an accident involving a lorry which shut part of the M6 in the Midlands today.

The crash took place southbound between junctions 13 for Stafford South and 12 for Gailey, at around 11.45am. An air ambulance was sent to the scene to treat one person.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "Crews arrived to find a single lorry involved in a road traffic collision.

"Sadly, it quickly became apparent to crews that nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene."

Traffic built up as emergency services worked at the scene. The northbound carriageway re-opened at around 12.30pm. Southbound was partially re-opened at around 1.30pm, and the scene was cleared by around 3pm.

The lorry belonged to Birmingham-based glass merchants Forward Glass.
