Beefeater and Brewers Fayre confirm closure dates

Venues across Shropshire and the West Midlands will shut up shop in September

Beefeater restaurants across Shropshire and the West Midlands will close next month, it has been confirmed.

Its owner Whitbread, the leisure and hospitality group which also runs Premier Inn hotels, says all of its venues will close on September 10.

There are Beefeater restaurants Wolverhampton, Walsall, Longbridge in south Birmingham, Redditch in Worcestershire and Balsall Common near Solihull as well as sites in Newport and Telford in Shropshire.

The overall closure of 106 venues is expected to cost around 3,800 jobs nationwide as Whitbread looks to exit the branded restaurants sector.

The five-year plan announced in April is aiming to create around £250 million in cost savings and deliver £2 billion back to shareholders.

Food and beverage sales are expected to fall by as much as £160 million and profits by £10 million after wider cost-saving measures.

Reports have also said that the Beefeater Reward Club will be closing on August 31.

Separately, Whitbread's 89 Brewers Fayre sites are set to close on September 7, according to reports, including West Midlands sites in Walsall and Cannock.

Whitbread is listed on the London Stock Exchange and also owns steakhouse Bar + Block and Cookhouse + Pub among other hospitality brands.

The company has so far not commented on these closure dates.
