There will be a new amber heat health alert in place across the West Midlands this weekend.

UKHSA West Midlands said the latest alert will be in place from 9pm tonight (Friday, June 26) until 9am on Sunday (June 28).

The hot weather currently being experienced by many in the UK has put additional pressure on health and social care services, especially in the West Midlands.

West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) said its crews are even busier than usual.

WMAS also warned that certain groups are more vulnerable in the warm weather, including older people, particularly women over 75, those living alone or in care homes, people with serious long-term illnesses or certain mental health conditions, individuals taking multiple medications, babies and young children, people who are bed-bound or have drug or alcohol addictions, and those who spend long periods in hot environments, such as people living in top-floor flats, those experiencing homelessness, or outdoor and manual workers.

WMAS issued the following advice to cope with the extreme temperatures: drink plenty of fluids; wear sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses when outside; wear light, loose clothing – cotton or linen are ideal in warm weather; cool your skin with water; take it slow and avoid strenuous activity and stay in the shade outside, especially between 11am and 3pm when the weather is at its hottest.
