Amber alert issued as heat brings transport disruption across West Midlands
Passengers are advised to check before travelling
Residents and commuters across the West Midlands are being urged to prepare for soaring temperatures after the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) upgraded its Heat Health Alert to Amber.
The alert came into effect today and will remain in place until 9pm on Sunday, July 12, with forecasters warning that the prolonged spell of hot weather could have wider impacts across the region.
Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) has advised passengers that high temperatures may affect the transport network, with the potential for delays and disruption to journeys as infrastructure comes under increased strain.
Meanwhile, West Midlands Railway has announced a reduced service on the Chase Line due to the extreme heat. From 12pm, trains will be unable to operate between Rugeley Trent Valley and Hednesford, with rail replacement buses running between the two stations until services can safely resume.
Passengers are advised to check before travelling, allow extra time for their journeys, and stay hydrated while using public transport during the hot weather.
The Amber Heat Health Alert signals that weather conditions are likely to have significant impacts on health and public services, particularly for vulnerable people, and authorities are urging residents to take sensible precautions to stay safe in the heat.
