Midlands airport issues apology after baggage system issues following power cut

The power cut at East Midlands Airport has affected the baggage system for departures.

East Midlands Airport has issued an apology to passengers travelling out of the airport after a power cut caused an issue with the baggage system.

The airport has issued the apology following the power cut, which happened in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday and meant that some passengers flying out were left without their luggage.

In a statement on social media, the airport said the brief power cut had affected a number of airport systems, including the baggage system.

It said it was continuing to work with engineers to resume operations and said that anyone scheduled to fly later on should come to the airport as normal and check the latest flight information.

A spokesman for East Midlands Airport said: “We would like to apologise to customers who have been affected by a fault with our baggage system, following a brief power cut earlier this morning.

“In the event that customers become separated from their luggage, they should stay in contact with their airline who will make arrangements for them to be reunited with their luggage at their destination.

“Our teams are working hard to support customers in the terminal and keep them informed.

“We are continuing to work with engineers so that baggage operations can resume as soon as possible.

“Anyone planning to fly from East Midlands Airport today should arrive as normal, keep any critical medication with them in hand luggage and check with their airline for their flight status.

“The technical issue is only affecting departures and baggage systems for arrivals are operating as normal.”
