"It's been a fantastic day and a fabulous record-breaking event", says the organisers of Wolverhampton's Best Foot Forward charity event.

This year's fundraising day saw runners and walkers including families, children and dogs turn out in force at WV Active's Aldersley Stadium  for the annual evemtg

Some wore fancy dress and some even brought pets in buggies to complete laps in aid of good causes and get some exercise at the same time.

Scorching temperatures brought runners out in their droves and the £16,000 in the charity pot was easily unlocked by the amount of people doing laps of the 400m track.

Mike Boyce, of the organising team at Rotary Club of the City of Wolverhampton, said: "It was a fantastic day and a fabulous record-breaking event in terms of the number of people who turned up and the number of laps completed overall which was a quite incredible 19, 421.

"The participation and number of laps completed was 30-per-cent up on any previous event and it was wonderful to see the people of Wolverhampton come out in force.

"The weather was probably partly a factor and I and the other organisers were kept busy providing a constant supply of water.

Best Foot Forward only requires participants to pay an entry fee and there is no need to seek any sponsorship cash from friends, family or online.

The runners and walkers simply complete as many laps of the stadium track as possible which will then unlock £1 per lap from a special event patrons fund which will go to the chosen charities. A personal micro-chip is given out to keep tally of how many laps are done.

Around 40 corporate sponsors donated to the funding pot. Last year  £11,700 was unlocked for the good causes.
