8 free walks on offer in Wolverhampton to help you get moving - see how and where you can get involved

Walks take place every weekday

A Wolverhampton walking group is celebrating 25 years together and is still going strong, with plenty of free events across the city every week.

Ramblers Wellbeing Walks Wolverhampton was established in 2021, having previously been known as Walking for Health since 2001.

In 2026, this dynamic walking group leads free walks in places across the city, perfect for those who may not currently walk very often but want to get healthier or make new friends.

Nalin Patel, the group’s volunteer scheme co-ordinator, said the most popular walks from this list are at Pendeford and Bantock Park, each typically attracting around 30–40 walkers.

The Smestow Nature Valley Walk usually sees between 15 and 20 participants.

The West Park Walk generally attracts around 10 walkers on a good day, but it takes place every weekday.

The group held a commemorative walk around Bantock Park earlier this month to mark the 25th anniversary.

Nalin said: "We were overwhelmed with the turnout, with over 70 walkers, along with former and current walk leaders, and Will Heckford, programme lead for The Ramblers, who said it was an absolute honour to be there.

"I'd like to say a huge thanks to all of our dedicated walk leaders who give up their valuable time to lead safe walks on people's doorsteps across Wolverhampton, and it was heart-warming to hear the effect that walking is having on our members."

Councillor Obaida Ahmed, Wolverhampton Council’s cabinet member for health, wellbeing and community, added: "Walking is not just an excellent social activity, but also brings with it a huge number of health benefits.

"It helps lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease, it strengthens bones and muscles, it improves balance and coordination, and it can help maintain a healthy weight. Evidence also suggests that just a 20-minute walk per day helps prevent and manage chronic illnesses and can also help prevent dementia.”
