Police investigate 'shooting' near Tipton primary school on Friday afternoon

Police have launched an investigation into a 'shooting' near a Tipton primary school around closing time on Friday.

Glebefields Primary School, near ASDA Tipton, was placed in lockdown whilst police secured the area and no-one was reported to be injured in the incident. 

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "An investigation has been launched following a shooting in Tipton yesterday afternoon, July 18.

"We were called to reports of a firearms discharge in Sandgate Road, Tipton, at around 3.30pm. Thankfully, no-one was injured.

"We understand the concern in the community with a school nearby. Students, parents and staff were kept on school grounds whilst police attended and made the area safe.

"If anyone has any information, dash-cam or doorbell footage, you can get in touch by calling 101, quoting log 3576 of July 18."

Information can also be passed on anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Today, the school posted a message on its Facebook page: " Wishing everyone a good summer holiday. Stay safe and we will see you all back in school on Tuesday, September 2."
