Entertainment licence bid for Wolverhampton's new-look city centre cinema
The new operators of Wolverhampton's former Light House cinema have applied for a licence to serve drinks and host sports and music events.
The venue in the landmark Chubb Building shut almost three years ago due to council budget constraints in a move to attract a new operator. The newly named Lockworks Cinema space is now undergoing a £2 million make over to expand the enterprise from a two-screen venue to a state-of-the-art four-screen unit.
Sutton Coldfield based operator PDJ has applied to Wolverhampton Council for the green light to sell alcohol at the enterprise in Fryer Street.
The application stated: "The proposed application is for a premises licence to permit plays, live music, recorded music, performance of dance, anything of a similar description, indoor sporting events and boxing or wrestling entertainments between the hours of 9am-11.59pm Monday-Friday and 12am-11.59pm Saturday-Sunday. Films between the hours of 9am-2am Monday–Friday and 12am-11.59pm Saturday-Sunday.
"Late night refreshments between the hours of 11pm--2.30 Monday-Sunday. The sale of alcohol for consumption on and off the premises between the hours of 11am-2am Monday-Sunday."
The redevelopment work is on track to be all completed ahead of the summer school holidays and three permanent and 20 part-time jobs are due to be created.

The money for the joint investment project has come from PDJ and the council. The company already operates the Royal Cinema in Maney Corner in Sutton Coldfield and is expecting to attract up to 130,000 visitors a year to the Grade II listed site which was formerly a lock factory.
More details of the new premises licence application can be viewed at Wolverhampton City Council, Licensing Services, Civic Centre, St Peter's Square, Wolverhampton, WV1 1SH where the licensing register can be inspected during normal opening hours or online website.
