Traffic released but delays remain on M6 after 'police incident' near Great Barr

Thirty-minute delays remain on the stretch of the M6 following a 'police incident' near Great Barr.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the M6, between J6 for Gravelly Hill and J7 for Great Barr, Sandwell, due to a police incident. 

Taffic was stopped in both direction on the M6, with delays of more than 30 minutes and around four miles of congestion building.

The incident was reported at around 3pm, however, traffic was released at around 3.12pm.

A National Highways West Midlands spokesperson said: "Traffic is stopped on the M6 in both directions between J6 Gravelly Hill and J7 Great Barr due to a Police led incident. 

"Emergency services on scene. There are 4 miles congestion northbound and 2 miles southbound. Allow extra travel time if in the area."

Delays remain in the area, with National Highways West Midlands urging to 'allow time for delays to clear'.

The spokesperson said: "Traffic has been released on the M6 in both directions between J6 Gravelly Hill and J7 Great Barr following a Police led incident.

"30 min delays above normal travel time remain in both directions. Please allow time for delays to clear."
