Officials at the non-league club, which last season celebrated winning the league title, said they were 'devastated' at the burglary at The Grove Stadium.

It comes after club chairman Colin Brookes revealed the Yeltz had spent £5,000 on ground improvements ahead of the new season.

Volunteers have been left counting the costs of the break in with officials now looking at ways to bolster security at the stadium, in Old Hawne Lane.

Cash and televisions from the club lounge were among the items taken in the burglary.

It is thought the raid happened sometime overnight between Sunday and Monday.

Volunteers discovered the burglary after they arrived yesterday to start preparing the ground for the first game of the season against Belper Town.

Police are investigating the break in. Anyone with information can call 101.
