Housing plan for former Walsall school site

More than 60 homes are poised to get the go-ahead for a former Walsall school site, in a bid to transform and regenerate the area.

A mixture of houses and apartments have been earmarked for the old Mary Elliott School and education centre in Brewer Street, Ryecroft.

Initial proposals were for just over 70 homes but the firm plans, due before members of Walsall Council's planning committee on Thursday, are for 62 properties.

The plot has been standing empty for a number of years after staff and pupils at Mary Elliott Special School transferred to a £6 million purpose-built centre in Leamore Lane in 2008.

Councillors are being recommended to approve the application.
