Owner Michael Bachyk celebrates his award for making Britain's tastiest pork sausageThe best bangers in Britain are made in the Black Country – and that's official.

Wolverhampton-based Michael Kirk Butchers is celebrating after being named the champion of champions by the Meats Traders' Journal for making the UK's tastiest pork sausages.

The shop in Woolpack Street was crowned the winner at a ceremony in London after a panel of judges compared its sausages with offerings from 24 other butchers in the national finals.

Delighted owner Michael Bachyk said today that the winning recipe would remain a closely guarded secret. He said: "We won a regional competition in Stafford earlier in the year and it gave us the chance to take our pork sausage to the grand final in London.

"We are absolutely ecstatic at winning and I'm especially pleased for the staff that work so hard here.

"The recipe for our pork sausage will remain a secret, but what I can say is that a good sausage is all about a great taste and size, served by people who care about the food." The final was at the Butchers Hall in central London, known as the Buckingham Palace for the industry.
