16 pictures capture 1920s-themed fun in the sun at Wolverhampton garden party event

Castlecroft Gardens is turning 100 this year!

Residents of Wolverhampton stepped back in time over the weekend as Castlecroft Gardens celebrated a milestone birthday with a 1920’s themed bash.

The event, which took place on Saturday (July 11), saw Wolverhampton residents basking in the sun with roaring-twenties-themed attire as temperatures reached highs of 30C across the West Midlands during the heatwave.

Guess were seen making the most of it all in pictures captured by Express & Star photographer Steve Leath - enjoying themed food, music and community activities.

The party is one of many events taking place to mark 100 years for the gardens as records linked to the estate suggest that homes were already being sold there by November 1926.

Castlecroft Gardens is recognised as one of Wolverhampton’s most distinctive residential areas. It was designated a conservation area by Wolverhampton Metropolitan Borough Council in 1998 and extended in 2010 because of its special architectural and historic interest.

This status helps protect the character of the area and recognises its importance as part of the city’s heritage.

Speaking about the special anniversary ahead of the event, a spokesperson for the organising committee said: “Reaching a centenary is a remarkable milestone for any community.

“We wanted to bring residents together to celebrate the history of Castlecroft Gardens, its unique character and, most importantly, the strong community spirit that continues to thrive here a hundred years after the first homes were established.

“The 1920s theme is a fitting way to honour the era in which Castlecroft Gardens began.”
