12 pulse-pounding pictures as extreme sporting event in Wolverhampton is kickstarted into action

Wolverhampton's Market Square has been transformed into an action-packed arena as an extreme sports event gets under way.

Professional riders and skateboarders were already showcasing their skills as the Extreme Wheels Weekender was launched into action on Saturday (June 14) morning.

Across the two-day event, BMX pros Gary Spencer and Callum Rafferty, along with scooter rider Tom Nieb, are demonstrating various stunts.

Other attractions include funfair rides, inflatable games and food stalls.

And for thrill-seekers over the age of nine who fancy having a go themselves, sessions are being held on mobile ramps and a track, including for skateboarding, BMX, drift trikes and KMX karts.

The event is open from 10am to 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday and is being hosted by Wolverhampton radio presenter, Dicky Dodd.

Here are 12 photos of the action captured by Express & Star photographer Tim Sturgess as the fun got under way on day one of the Extreme Wheels Weekender:

Visitors to the event can bring their own bikes, scooters and skateboards - though helmets and appropriate footwear is required.

Wolverhampton Council is working in partnership with Extreme Wheels Roadshow to bring the Extreme Wheels Weekender to the city. The project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
