11 'fires in the open' across West Midlands and Shropshire as hot weather continues
The recent hot weather has meant more work for our fire services.
As temperatures rise and people head outdoors to spend time with their family and friends, there’s one hidden danger that many of us don’t expect: outdoor fires.
More than 10 ‘fires in the open’ have been reported across South Staffordshire, the West Midlands and Shropshire since the heatwave reached its peak, with the fire service in a seemingly endless battle to warn people not to light fires on dry grass.

‘Fires in the open’ calls relate to any fires or blazes that are registered as being in fields, gardens, forests and outdoor spaces and can often spread quickly and randomly.
This type of fire is becoming more common as temperatures rise, with more people opting to have barbecues and fires outdoors.
Now, as we look back on reporting, more than 10 ‘fires in the open’ have been reported across South Staffordshire, West Midlands and Shropshire over the last 10 days.
