Stunning mountain range under three-hour drive from Wolverhampton one of UK’s best destinations for sunset hikes
A stunning mountain range under three hours drive from Wolverhampton has been named one of the best destinations in the UK for sunset hikes.
Ahead of the brighter days, the outdoor experts at Blacks have analysed data on average sunset times, cloud coverage, and the number of hiking trails across UK regions to reveal the 10 best destinations for a sunset hike.
Natalie Wolfenden, author and outdoor enthusiast at Blacks, said: “Sunset hikes are becoming increasingly popular, with searches increasing by 191% in the past three months.
“Summer is the perfect time to go on a sunset hike. The skies are much clearer, making for better sunsets, and the warmer weather helps hikers to be more comfortable.”
The Brecon Beacons in Wales was named in the list and ranked the fifth best destination in the UK for a sunset hike.

The average summer sunset time according to the study is 21 minutes and 12 seconds and the average cloud cover across summer months is 49.3 percent.
The Brecon Beacons (officially known as Bannau Brycheiniog) are considered exceptionally beautiful because they offer a diverse, wild, and unspoiled natural landscape.
Natalie at Blacks added:“It is important to pack correctly for a sunset hike. Temperatures can drop dramatically once the sun sets, and hikers finishing their journey will likely face cold and bitter weather.
“It is good practice to wear layers of clothing that can be removed and adjusted as the sun sets and the temperature changes. Alongside this, always check the forecast before you leave for any unsettled conditions; if heavy rain is forecast, you may also want to consider adding waterproof layers.”
“After the sun sets, it’s likely you’ll have minimal natural light. Therefore, you must bring a torch or headtorch and ensure that it is well-charged. It can be easy to stray from routes, lose your footing, or you may even encounter wild animals.
“When choosing a spot to view the sunset, make sure you’re careful to inspect where you stand or sit and don’t get too close to exposed edges when at a height. Always wear appropriate footwear when heading out on a walk or hike to prevent injury and ensure comfort.”
