Vauxhall has given the Grandland SUV a price cut of more than £5,000 with the introduction of a new entry-level Griffin variant.

The Grandland Griffin replaces the existing Design grade and adds more kit for less money, making this family-friendly SUV a lot more appealing.

The Griffin gains 19-inch alloy wheels – the electric model comes fitted with 20-inch wheels – a contrasting black roof, rear privacy glass and illuminated Vauxhall badges.

Inside, all cars get heated front seats and steering wheel and a 10-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat. The Grandland Griffin also comes with several driver safety assist systems, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, front and rear parking sensors and Vauxhall’s Intelli-LED headlights.

There is a choice of two powertrains with the entry-level hybrid fitted with a 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine mated to an electric motor and 48-volt battery to make 143bhp.

The Grandland can also be specified with an electric powertrain, which is hooked up to a 73kWh battery pack with an electric motor to produce 210bhp and 345Nm of torque. Vauxhall claims the car can travel up to 322 miles and all models are supported with 160kW DC rapid-charging, enabling an 80 per cent top-up to be completed in around 30 minutes.

Prices for the Grandland Griffin start at £31,480 and rise to £34,495 for the electric model. Orders are open now with deliveries expected to commence later this year.
