Famous name has been used throughout the Japanese brand’s history.

Mitsubishi has revived its Pajero name for a new off-roader.

Utilising a traditional body-on-frame setup, the Pajero has been designed for heavy off-road use, with this layout aiming to bring extra stability when tackling poor surfaces or while towing.

Underneath, the Pajero gets a traditional 2.4-litre turbocharged diesel engine with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. All-in, the Pajero produces 200bhp and 480Nm of torque, with Mitsubishi claiming a 3.5-tonne tow limit. Naturally, all-wheel-drive comes as standard, with a low-range transfer case and torque vectoring there to allow the Shogun to conquer serious terrain.

Inside, the Pajero has got a high-tech look with a large central screen combining infotainment and driver readouts. Underneath, there appears to be a panel of physical controls, while behind the gear selector sits a drive mode selector. It’s here that drivers will be able to choose different levels of four-wheel-drive assistance.

Mitsubishi has also kitted the Pajero out with acoustic glass for a quieter cabin at high speeds, while seating for up to seven people should help out drivers looking to take larger groups with them. The second-row seats can also be moved forward or back depending on the need for legroom.

A new sound system – built in collaboration with Yamaha – will also use noise compensation technology and will adjust the volume and tuning depending on the vehicle’s speed.

While Mitsubishi has yet to confirm the Pajero for the UK, it has stated that it will launch the car in Japan and Australia soon, before introducing it ‘in approximately 100 countries worldwide’ from 2027 onwards.
