Powerful electric SUV will be available in three specification choices.

Mercedes-AMG has unveiled its new GT SUV, which arrives as the world’s most powerful production SUV.

Hitting the range as the most potent SUV in the brand’s line-up, the electric GT SUV will be available in three specifications – 63, 55 and 53 – with the most powerful 63 model able to deliver 1,153bhp from its three-motor line-up.

It allows the GT SUV to go from 0-60mph in 2.4 seconds and on to a limited top speed of 168mph.

The GT 55 SUV, meanwhile, produces 805bhp, while the dual-motor GT 53 brings 536bhp and a 0-60mph time of 3.9 seconds. The GT SUV is available with two battery sizes – 106kWh and 128kWh – bringing respective ranges of 364 and 435 miles.

AMG’s Active Ride Control+ system is also available, bringing together air springs and adjustable dampers to give full control over the car’s firmness

Underneath, the GT SUV uses an 800-volt electric architecture and an oil-cooled battery which helps it to deliver the best possible performance at all times. Mercedes-AMG says that the GT SUV, in range-topping 63 form, can deliver a continuous 711bhp which is accessible at all times. The headline 1,153bhp is unlocked during hard acceleration or when launch control is activated.

The two rear motors can also be disconnected from the single front one to help improve efficiency when driving at motorway speeds.

The battery architecture means that the GT SUV can accept a charge speed of up to 710kW, which would allow it to go from 10 to 80 per cent charge in 12 minutes.

Inside, there’s a 14-inch central infotainment system linked to a 10.2-inch driver’s display and an optional 14-inch passenger readout. As with other recent AMG cars, the GT SUV’s steering wheel is equipped with rotary dials to give control over features such as the ride setting and driver mode.

Full pricing and specification details for the new Mercedes-AMG GT SUV are expected to be announced shortly.
