There are stunning under-the-radar towns in the West Midlands perfect to visit when the sun is shining

Warm weather is here to stay for the foreseeable in the West Midlands.

Temperatures are forecast to stay above 20C this weekend and into next week – ideal conditions for getting out and exploring somewhere new.

There are plenty of lesser-known towns across the region offering historic streets, canalside walks, independent shops and picturesque countryside without the crowds.

Whether you're after a leisurely afternoon, a scenic riverside stroll or a dose of local history, these under-the-radar destinations are well worth adding to your weekend plans.

Bewdley, Worcestershire

Often overshadowed by nearby Worcester and the Severn Valley Railway, Bewdley is one of the prettiest riverside towns in the region. Elegant Georgian buildings line the banks of the River Severn, while narrow streets are home to antique shops, artisan bakeries and welcoming tea rooms.

On a warm weekend, it's the perfect place to enjoy an ice cream beside the water, watch boats drift by or take a leisurely riverside walk.

Bridgnorth, Shropshire

Split between its historic High Town and Low Town, Bridgnorth offers one of the most distinctive townscapes in the Midlands. The famous cliff railway connects the two levels, while visitors can admire the leaning remains of Bridgnorth Castle, stroll through colourful gardens or browse independent retailers.

Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire

Stourport-on-Severn is often overlooked but it comes into its own during warm weather. Built around one of Britain's most impressive inland canal basins, the town offers waterside walks where colourful narrowboats sit alongside cafés, pubs and independent eateries.

Visitors can explore the historic canal network before heading to the River Severn for open green spaces and picnic spots, while families can enjoy traditional amusements and riverside attractions. With its mix of canal heritage, scenic views and relaxed atmosphere, it's an ideal destination for a sunny weekend escape without venturing too far from home.

Much Wenlock, Shropshire

This charming medieval market town is often described as one of Shropshire's hidden gems. Timber-framed buildings, limestone cottages and flower-filled streets create a postcard-worthy setting, while the ruins of Wenlock Priory add a fascinating historical backdrop.
