The 22-year-old has released Breathe, via Animal Farm, which is available to hear on her Soundcloud page.

A spokesperson for the musician said: "Her thought-provoking lyrics and soulful delivery come with the assured self-belief and deep emotional intelligence of someone to whom it never even occurred to listen to the Top 40 for inspiration."

She held a scholarship with the Birmingham Music Service from the age of 11, performed at BBC Proms and got a place at Brit School-funded Birmingham Ormiston Academy, only to fall out of favour with a system that “churned out little pop stars, and I just didn’t vibe with that".

"After plenty of disagreements with senior management about their approach to young musicians, I got kicked out,” she continued.

Described as "fiercely political", and armed with a mix tape of Lauryn Hill, Bob Marley, Kelis, Amy Winehouse, Destiny’s Child and India Arie, she taught herself to play the guitar and finally brought her bedroom music to life.
