Musicians from diverse backgrounds and genres from across the city came together at Newhampton Arts Centre.

Organisers wanted to provide a relaxed environment where those wanting to learn more about the music industry can get an insight from professionals and build contacts.

Representatives from Music Union, Arts Council, insurance specialists and Performing Rights Society were on hand to give advice.

John Paul, Director of Beatsabar, said: "We are trying to get people to come together in a place where they can network and meet others.

"I run a recording studio and I'm constantly asked what is the next step after recording a song or playing a gig, and not many people know about the funding available for them.

"So I asked the Arts Council and PRS to come to Wolverhampton to allow people to learn more for free and not have to travel for it."

John hopes that this event will help put Wolverhampton's urban and electronic music scene on the map.

"I am all about pushing Wolverhampton as a city. Birmingham has its own scene but Wolverhampton isn't there yet.

"In the urban and electronic music scene there's not a real platform here, despite the money it brings in. We want to help get the word out."

Information was given about the various funding opportunities available for budding musicians to help them take their career to the next level and how to make money from music.

As well advice, live music was performed by the Cypher, which showcased some of the top rappers from the Midlands.

The event aimed to give new artists a platform to show off their skills and learn more about UK rap and grime.

The improvised workshops also gave producers a space to show off their beats in a back2back mixing session.

John Paul hopes to host two networking events per year, with the next one in January 2020.
