Wolverhampton's Beacon Radio was today facing an uncertain future after it was revealed that it is up for sale.

The Tettenhall Road station is on the market following Global Radio's £375 million takeover of GCap Media.

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) raised competition concerns about the merger, which saw Global become the country's largest radio group.

BRMB, Heart East Midlands, Mercia and Wyvern are also believed to be on offer.

Beacon staff said today it was too soon to tell what was going to happen to the station and their jobs.

Meanwhile, Beacon Radio was today mourning the loss of one of its founder members, Jay Oliver, who died in Florida on Tuesday.

The Express & Star had close links to Beacon in its early days and Mr Oliver worked alongside Alan Graham, Midland News Association group director.
