Big Aston Villa injury update with star set for scan
Midfielder came off in Thursday’s defeat at Nottingham Forest.
Villa are sweating on the fitness of Amadou Onana with the midfielder due to undergo a scan on a calf injury.
The midfielder, who recovered from a knee injury in time to feature in Thursday’s 1-0 Europa League defeat at Nottingham Forest, was forced off with a fresh problem during the second half.
Boss Unai Emery has already confirmed he will not be available for Sunday’s Premier League visit of Tottenham.
Yet the bigger concern is the Belgium international may be out for longer, with the club facing a huge final three weeks of the season.
“It’s difficult,” said Emery, when describing Onana’s situation on Friday.
“He has a scan, and we will see the consequences after it and how he is feeling. But for Sunday, it is sure he is not available.”
Onana, who became Villa’s record signing when he joined from Everton for £50million two summers ago, missed last weekend’s 1-0 defeat at Fulham with the knee injury.
The 24-year-old has shown improved form during his second season at Villa Park but injuries have remained a problem. So far, he has been limited to just 21 league starts.
Midfielder Ross Barkley and winger Alysson are back available to face Spurs, with neither part of Villa’s Europa League squad.
