Bully column: I back Football League proposals

The Football League has announced some interesting proposals about expanding to four leagues of 20 teams.

In principle I welcome the suggestions.

It's be good to cut down on the amount of games, particularly in the second half of the season when there's always a lot of congestion after winter postponements and cup games.

It'd be a big change but it could make the leagues even more competitive.

And I think it'd be good for the players, they'd be more likely to be in peak condition and that means better football matches.

If long midweek trips – and Wolves know all about those – are cut down then that's definitely a good thing.

And at the end of the season more of the fixtures will mean something. Wolves had a couple of months of nothing games to end the season, but with only 20 teams, and six in the play-offs and three going down, in theory there'll be something riding on almost every game for the vast majority of the season.

The only thing I'm totally opposed to is B teams, and I hope that's not part of this proposal.

You've got to keep the integrity of the league. I don't see what's wrong with just having reserve teams.

Over at Wolves I see we've been named as one of the relegation favourites.

Well at least it means we've got something to prove!

To be honest I'd rather we were the underdogs with less pressure and expectation, and I do think Wolves will kick on next season and climb the table.

Kenny Jackett says he wants a few older heads in the squad and I couldn't agree more.

It's something we were lacking last season. The lads were at times chucked in at the deep end and they couldn't swim.

It was men against boys sometimes and some could cope and some couldn't.

Where we finished in the league was the level the team performed at.

Four of five older heads in the squad would make a big difference.
