Initial discussions have taken place over summer spending but with the club's search for a new owner ongoing, the financial situation is not clear.

With the emergency loan window scrapped from next season onwards, clubs must finalise their entire squad by the end of August.

And Jackett want good competition from front to back – something that hasn't always been the case at Wolves this season.

He said of his summer budget: "There have been conversations yes, but I wouldn't say there's necessarily any real clarity in terms of, 'are we spending money' and 'where are we (at)'?

"Summer is an important time – it will be even more important without the emergency loan window.

"It's about making sure you have a squad and that competition, and balance and spread of players to be able to cover is paramount and imperative that you do your work well in the summer.

"It's going to be important without the emergency loan window next year."

Jackett is keen to add experience to the ranks, as he did in January with the capture of 32-year-old Mike Williamson, although the injury defender has yet to feature.

He believes the blend of youth and experience will be vital to Wolves' fortunes, adding: "You may not need much but you do need some experience.

"Direct competition brings out the best in players. My focus of late has been around the players that we have, getting the best out of the group that we have.

"What we can't underestimate is there are a lot of good young players here and a very good youth policy as Wolves.

"That has to, we understand, transmit into a very good first-team, but we have to get the most out of and give the opportunities to young players."
