Wolves' Carl Ikeme catches the international bug

Goalkeeper Carl Ikeme faces a race against time to be fit for Wolves' Championship clash with Ipswich, boss Kenny Jackett has confirmed.

The 29-year-old shot-stopper was sent home early from international duty with Nigeria after picking up a nasty stomach bug.

Ikeme has been in good form for Jackett's side since reclaiming his place at the expense of Emiliano Martinez.

And Jackett revealed he will be assessed over the coming days to see if he can line up against Mick McCarthy's Tractor Boys on Saturday.

The Wolves boss said: "Carl has picked up a stomach bug while away with Nigeria.

"He missed their second game and they sent him home because he was struggling. He came back yesterday morning so at least there is a little bit of time.

"We will see how he recovers but he was quite bad when our doctor saw him yesterday afternoon."

Jackett admitted he has been impressed with Ikeme's form, but insisted Martinez will be ready if called upon.

He continued: "Carl has done very well. I have been pleased with him and he has played behind what is an inexperienced defence.

"Martinez hasn't been back from injury long but Carl has kept his place.

"Martinez has reacted very well though. He has had a long injury with a thigh muscle.

"He is battling for his place and we feel we have two good goalkeepers."

Jackett also gave an update on Mike Williamson, James Henry and Dave Edwards who are all currently in the treatment room.

He added: "Williamson will train today – he will then build up and hopefully get some games before the end of the season but he won't be involved on Saturday.

"He needs at least 10 days. Henry I'm hoping will be fit. He has been training and if all goes to plan he should be available for Ipswich. Dave Edwards is similar to Mike and is maybe two weeks away."
