Mike Williamson wants to help get Wolves back into the Premier League - though the defender will likely have to wait for his second Molineux bow.

The 32-year-old, who made five appearances while on loan earlier this season, completed a permanent switch from Newcastle yesterday, signing an 18-month deal.

But the centre-back will not be immediately available to head coach Kenny Jackett as he is still shaking off the effects of a hamstring injury.

Williamson, who sustained the injury within days of being recalled by his parent club in late November, is expected to miss Tuesday's home game with Championship basement dwellers Bolton but confident he is getting closer to full fitness.

"I'm not far off being back now and am looking forward to getting started and a new era," said Williamson, who admitted he and Wolves make a "good fit".

He went on: "Hopefully I can give back to the club the faith they have showed in me.

"I think it sometimes difficult to explain but you can feel at home at a football club and feel comfortable as soon as you come in.

"That's with the players, the staff and the fans – I really enjoyed my month here and was always keen to come back.

"I just want to enjoy my football now and be a part of something where we are pushing for the Premier League.

"That is where I want to be and I believe the club has all the tools to be in there."

Williamson was not the only defender to arrive at Molineux yesterday after the club completed a deal for 17-year-old prospect Hakeem Odoffin. The 6ft 3in centre-back will join the club's development squad after the club's agreed a fee thought to be in the region of £100,000.

Jackett remains keen on adding another striker before Monday's transfer deadline but reports yesterday claiming they were close to signing Kike from Middlesbrough are understood to be wide of the mark.

Wolves did make an enquiry about the 26-year-old Spaniard earlier this month but he is not a player they are likely to pursue.
