"A new contract and promotion to the Premier League would be the ultimate situation."

Scott Golbourne is a man on a mission.

With talks ongoing over extending his current deal, which expires next summer, and Wolves still harbouring hopes of a push for the Championship promotion places, he is aiming to seal a perfect season in style.

Kenny Jackett revealed last month that the club were looking to reward the consistent left-back with a new contract, labelling the 27-year-old a 'very good professional' and a 'solid person and good performer'.

The two parties aren't any closer to a new deal, Golbourne told the Express & Star, but when the former Barnsley man remarks that he's is concentrating on his football, you get the impression it's got more substance than your average footballer soundbite.

"We're not any closer at the minute," he said. "I'm hoping we get something sorted at some point.

"I'm focused more on the football side of things than anything else, I've been happy with my level of performance so it's about keeping that consistency and hopefully the bits and pieces off the pitch will sort themselves in due course."

Has the contract situation been a distraction? "I wouldn't say so. A lot of players need settling down if they're out of contract or if there's negotiations going on it can affect performance, but I'm someone that tries to focus on football.

"In this game if you play well you get rewarded. It's a case of focusing on the football and the rest takes care of itself.

"It's a matter of getting around the table. Obviously there have been some changes at the club with it being up for sale – I think there's bigger things for the club to focus on."

Golbourne has spoken in the past of enjoying the consistency that playing with a regular left-winger in front of him brings.

For two seasons he and Bakary Sako struck up a solid and prolific partnership.

With Sako gone no fewer than eight players have played left midfield this season – but in Jordan Graham, Golbourne feels there is potential for them as a pair.

"He's done really well," Golbourne added. "He's dynamic, he's got ability with the ball at his feet and can cause problems.

"And he'll help defensively as well, I'm expecting him to hopefully keep that level of performance, which can be difficult when you're younger.

"He brings a different dimension to the team.

"I think there's some good potential to build a partnership there and we can be a force down that left hand side."
