Wolves are currently seven adrift of sixth place.

But with seven games to come before a break for FA Cup action on January 9 the left-back knows Wolves could soon be back in the top-six picture.

"It's an opportunity to start climbing the table," the 27-year-old said.

"You need to start putting the last of the foundations in place before the business end of the season

"We want to give ourselves a good platform. We can give ourselves a good chance by getting ourselves in a healthy position that doesn't give us too much to do at the back end of the season.

"We'll be looking for some valuable points heading into the Christmas period."

Wolves dominated last weekend's 0-0 draw with MK Dons but ultimately couldn't pick that badly-needed win.

However Golbourne believes more of the same will soon see Wolves start climbing the table.

"When you do play well you expect a win – we did everything we've been talking about doing other than scoring," Golbourne added.

"There's a lot of good stuff we can take from that game. In terms of a performance that's the level we want to be at.

"If we can play like that more often than not we'll get the right result."

Golbourne will have a new defender alongside him tomorrow, probably Ethan Ebanks-Landell, after Mike Williamson's departure to Newcastle.

He has backed the Smethwick-born player to shine.

"We've got a good squad of players, some good defenders," Golbourne added.

"Ethan's a very good player, it's a good opportunity andI think he'll come in and do well."
