Wolves boss Kenny Jackett believes an inexperienced defence and the loss of Bakary Sako have been big factors in his team's slump.

After missing out on the play-offs on just goal difference last season Wolves are marooned in 15th place, closer to the relegation zone than the top six. With just 21 points from 18 matches, Jackett's team would at this rate earn just 53 points by the end of the season.

The Wolves boss, fully appreciative of the frustration of supporters, admitted that recent improved performances only count for so much. "While we all want to be patient, results need to come in football," he told the Express & Star.

"In terms of where we are, the difference between fourth bottom and sixth tells a story, of where we are as a team. Performances do give you encouragement that results are around the corner, but it's results ultimately that dictate."

Sako's departure to Crystal Palace, losing Nouha Dicko through injury and the sale of Richard Stearman have been been disruptive factors.

When asked what had gone wrong this season, Jackett replied: "It's a combination of things. Certainly in terms of our backline, at times we've been inexperienced. Finding that balance, that ability to attack both sides, we haven't had, we've been quite one-sided in terms of our attacking.

"And then our goals-for column, looking at that and where our goals come from."

"Sako and Dicko are two important factors, and two big personalities as well. And it takes times for people to grow into those type of roles and have that confidence.

"Yes we lost those guys, but I think Jordan Graham has made a good start to his Wolves career, it'll be interesting as to whether he can regularly handle Championship football, and hopefully his personality grows."
