Winger Rajiv van La Parra says it's 'a mystery' as to why he has been left out in the cold at Wolves.

The Dutchman is on loan at Championship leaders Brighton until January, having fallen out of favour this season.

He was an unused substitute for the Seagulls' 2-1 victory over Blues on Saturday, but is likely to see more game time than he had been at Molineux.

"The manager maybe wanted to try some different players but I cannot explain what happened," the winger said of his Wolves snub.

"It's unreal. I played last season and I then went onto the bench not playing as many games.

"I'm the type of person who goes to the manager and asked for an explanation why I wasn't playing. He (Jackett) couldn't really give a reason but he motivated me by saying that I was close to the team and training well.

"That was keeping me positive about the manager and his opinion of me. At the end of the day, they were just words and not actions and I can just focus on playing now.

"It's a mystery. I didn't understand what happened but sometimes these things happen in football."

Van La Parra made 41 appearances last season, scoring his one and only league goal away at his new temporary team in a 1-1 draw.

He has been surplus to requirements of late though, making seven appearances in the current campaign but allowed to speak to Leeds and Bolton about moves away from Wolves, both of which collapsed.

"A permanent move to Leeds didn't go through. I was disappointed, now I am not because something better came along," Van La Parra added.

"I was surprised (at Brighton's loan offer) because it was near the end of loan window but I wasn't surprised because I know my qualities.

"It's a big chance for me and I'm very happy and appreciative that the manager (Chris Hughton) wants to give me an opportunity.

"I think everything happens for a reason. If something doesn't work out then maybe something else will.

"Two weeks ago I could have signed for Bolton, who are bottom of the league, and now I am here.

"It's up to me now and I want to take it with both hands. I want to work hard and make things possible."

Van La Parra has six matches in which to make an impact at the league leaders.

His loan is due to expire on January 2 and he is ineligible for the Brighton v Wolves fixture a day earlier.

He added: "If I look at the moment at my situation at Wolves I don't see it changing if I go back, so I want to do well for Brighton and see what else happens in January. You never know in football. He (Jackett) is not playing me now but I might go back in January and play a lot of games."

"If the situation is the same as now it wouldn't be a good move for me to go back."
