New Wolves striker Grant Holt is keen to show what he can do – and help Kenny Jackett's team climb the table.

Holt made surprise move to Molineux from League One side Wigan Athletic last Friday.

Just hours after the deal was confirmed he made an almost instant debut as a substitute in the 2-0 win over Blues.

His 10-minute cameo at St Andrew's could soon be followed by a first start in 2015 (owing to a serious knee injury) with Kenny Jackett saying he wouldn't hesitate to blood the 34-year-old from the off.

And Holt hopes to make an important contribution during what will initially be a two-month spell.

He described how the move from Wigan happened. "It all came about quite quickly last Friday," Holt said.

"I was told in the morning that there was an opportunity to come here and I was then looking forward to getting here and getting it sorted.

"I think when you get offered the chance to get back at a higher level and play in the Championship it is a good one to take.

"I've known the gaffer for quite a while. He has worked in and around the leagues and, as everyone knows, I have been around for quite a long time as well!

"Everyone knows about Wolves and once the opportunity was there for me it was never in doubt."

Holt spent time in the Championship on loan at Huddersfield Town last season, playing at Molineux in a 3-1 win for the Terriers.

He returned to action with Wigan earlier this month and made five consecutive substitute appearances.

The experienced striker, who knows Sheyi Ojo and Conor Coady from his time Huddersfield, doesn't feel he has anything to prove in terms of his reputation.

And, having worked his way back to fitness, he wants to put his experience to good use with Wolves.

"My knee is great, I am absolutely delighted with it, and it is a case of getting back to the form I showed at Huddersfield," he said.

"Hopefully I can help the lads along with my experience but I also want to perform and show what I can do.

"When I was coming through at Sheffield Wednesday I remember we had Mark Robins and people like that – good, experienced pros so if you weren't doing something right or they weren't happy with something they would tell you.

"I have tried to keep that mentality myself that if something isn't right or you can give a helping hand and make their game better to go on to bigger and better things that is alright by me."

The move to Molineux is only temporary and Holt isn't yet thinking about what might happen after January 2.

With the Championship games coming thick and fast, the former Villa and Norwich City striker is concentrating on making an impact at Wolves and taking it from there.

"I haven't thought beyond January yet," he said.

"I just wanted to get in here, get playing and get minutes and get myself into the starting eleven – that is the main aim at the moment.

"We have got another tough game at Bristol City and we need to do the same things as we did at the weekend.

"I want to try and help the club do what we want to do and that is to win some football matches.

"There was a run of not winning for a few games and then I thought the lads were excellent in the derby on Saturday.

"We defended brilliantly as a unit and have just got to keep that mentality and positivity going."
