Wolves fans have overwhelmingly backed the idea of bringing safe standing at Molineux.

In an Express & Star poll, 80 per cent of 2,500 people who voted said they would support the change.

Wolves have stressed they have a 'watching brief' on the issue, with legislation not currently allowing for standing in the top two tiers of English football.

But they do plan to send a delegation to the home of Scottish giants Celtic, who hope to introduce 'rail seats' next season.

Members of the Wolves Fans Parliament will see first hand what changes Celtic are making as they cater for 2,600 standing supporters, who would stand in rows separated by bars.

Reaction to Wolves exploring the possibility has been overwhelmingly positive.

Peter Bartlett, a member of the London Wolves Supporters Club, thinks fans often stood up for matches anyway.

He said: "I think it'd be better than the current model, where people still stand up. You hear of people not going to away games because they don't want to stand anymore.

"You'd think it would improve the atmosphere at Molineux. I'm pleased to hear they're looking into it but, unless there's some impetus, it's not going to happen."

Rail seats are commonplace in Germany, where the safe standing model has proved very successful in recent years.

In a statement, Wolves said: "Current legislation does not allow for rail seating. The club simply have a watching brief on the issue and no decisions have been made.

"The club is committed to listening to all parties involved and engaging in an evidence-based debate.

"This is why the possibility of visiting Celtic's rail seating – should it go ahead – was mentioned at Tuesday's Fans' Parliament meeting."

Meanwhile, Wolves under-21 goalkeeper Harry Burgoyne has joined National League North side Lowestoft Town a month's loan.

Burgoyne, 18, who was snapped up by Wolves at the age of 12, is widely tipped for big things.

In 2015, Burgoyne signed a two-year professional contract with the Molineux club.

He will continue to train Wolves academy during the week, but come to the aid of the Suffolk side on match-days.

He said: "I see going on loan to Lowestoft as a really positive move. I'm looking forward to the challenge."
