Wolves have opened talks with midfielder James Henry over a new contract, it can be revealed.

Henry, who was the subject of firm interest from Championship rivals Charlton Athletic over the summer, has been one of Wolves' star performers during the team's indifferent start to the season.

His future seemed in doubt just a couple of months ago, with boss Kenny Jackett non-committal over the former Millwall man's place in the squad after Charlton made an inquiry as to his availability. However some good form in pre-season saw Henry force his way back into Jackett's plans and he has now made the right-wing berth his own.

Henry told the Express & Star: "We've started talking so hopefully in the next couple of weeks we can get it sorted. The security's a big thing and once that's sorted it'll be a little bit of a weight lifted off my shoulders.

"But at the moment it's not an issue, I'm just enjoying my football."

Wolves have a batch of players whose deals expire next summer, including Henry, Kevin McDonald, Scott Golbourne and Matt Doherty.

Henry said he was pleased with his individual form.

"I didn't come particularly close to leaving. There were a few rumours but nothing materialised for whatever reason," he said.

"I'm still a Wolves player and that's the main thing at the end of the day. I'll hopefully push on and get that new contract and stay at Wolves.

"I feel my performances have been good, I just need to carry that on now. I can't rest on my laurels."

With Jackett having tinkered with the formation slightly this season, does Henry feel it suits him better?

"The system's still quite similar, I've operated on the left and the right, it has suited me the way we've been playing and I think it's worked quite well," he said.

"We just need to start turning good performances into points now.

"I'm happy to play wherever the gaffer sees fit.

"Most of my career I've played right wing but before I became a professional I was a centre midfielder/a number 10.

"Obviously not a lot of teams were playing that when I was younger, it's funny how it changes, everyone's playing that way now and I'm on the right."

Henry is an almost certain starter when early league leaders Brighton & Hove Albion visit Molineux.

Jackett, who is sweating on the fitness of striker Adam Le Fondre who took a knock to the shin in training, praised Henry's early season form.

He said: "He's had a good start to the season, I've been pleased with what he's done."

Jack Price (ankle) is also a doubt for tomorrow's game.
