The striker was last month the subject of three rejected bids from Premier League Norwich City, including one of £10million.

Afobe admitted it had been a 'difficult' few weeks and that the lure of Premier League football was an attractive one.

But he reaffirmed his desire to be in the top flight with Wolves next season.

"It's been a difficult few weeks," former Arsenal striker Afobe, speaking exclusively to the Express & Star, said.

"I've tried to keep out of it, I've let my dad, my agent, sort it all out.

"It's the first time it's ever happened to me in my career. You put Sky Sports on and see yourself on breaking news.

"You've got training the next day, the boys are having a bit of banter with you and it's hard, because all I want to do it play with a smile on my face and enjoy my football.

"Now it's all over I'm happy I'm still here and I've got unfinished business with Wolves."

Afobe, who scored his fourth goal of the season in Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Bolton, was also believed to have attracted the interest of Newcastle United.

Was he interested in a move to Norwich? "It was just a case of getting my head down," the 22-year-old said.

"Every player wants to play in the Premier League, I'm not going to stand here and say I didn't want to play in the Premier League, but it's about the right time and the right place.

"I've only been at Wolves for six months and I definitely believe I need to stay here and play from the beginning of the season, with Wolves, and give ourselves the best shot of playing in the Premier League next season."

Afobe also praised the Wolves fans for their unstinting support in recent weeks and said team morale, despite an indifferent start to the season, was 'unbelievable'.

Benik Afobe scores from the spot to notch his fourth of the season at Bolton.

"They're a great bunch of lads, they've felt...I wouldn't say sympathy with me, but they've understood my situation, no one's had a go at me and I'm going to try and prove that we can do it, and also thank them by scoring goals and standing by me when things were a bit rough.

"The fans are the best I've played under and I want to thank them for all the support they give me and the team.

"I'm fully focused. The fans have been unbelievable.

"Sometimes when I go through my Twitter feed and my Instagram the fans have not said anything bad about me, they haven't booed me, they've stuck by me.

"I'm not saying things have got that bad, because I was still playing well and working hard for the team, but they've been unbelievable.

"Even when we were 2-1 down at Bolton they were louder than the Bolton fans, which just shows how good they are."

"I'm very settled now. I'm enjoying my football, I've got lots of friends here, I have not even one per cent of a bad thing to say about Wolves."
