The 21-year-old has endured a hugely frustration six weeks, picking up a knee injury on the first day of the pre-season tour to France.

Wallace hadn't missed a game through injury since he was 12 years old and is itching to get back to full fitness.

He played around an hour for Scott Sellars' under-21 side at Stoke City on Saturday.

George Saville also made his comeback from injury, playing the first half in a 1-0 defeat at the Britannia Stadium.

And Wallace, who was Kenny Jackett's first signing this summer when he moved from Portsmouth in May, hailed it as a successful outing.

"My running felt fine and my knee felt good," Wallace told the Express & Star.

"It's just those little bits of quality that will hopefully come now and I hope to make an impression for a club I'm really enjoying being at."

Wallace played on the right side of midfield against Stoke, but can also play on the left flank.

He watched all of Wolves' pre-season games and said it had been a learning curve being on the sidelines.

"It's been massively frustrating," he added.

"A lot of the Wolves fans don't know me and it's easy to get that label where you're not playing games.

"It's the first time I've been unavailable for a game through injury since I was 12 years old.

"I played almost 140 in a row for Portsmouth so it's really frustrating, coming to a new club where you want to make a good impression.

"The boys in the medical team – I've been in pretty much every day for six weeks solid trying to get back – and they've matched my commitment.

"I'm over it now. I don't want to look back, I want to look forward now and I can't wait to get started.

"It's been a good chance to take a back seat and see how the club runs, how the boys want to play and the systems the manager wants to play.

"I've learnt a lot. It's a new experience, being injured, but now I'm over it and let the good times begin."

Wallace is one of six summer signings made by Jackett, with Conor Coady and loanees Adam le Fondre, Sheyi Ojo and Emiliano Martinez following him through the door at Molineux.

And the midfielder can't wait to emulate them in making their Molineux debuts.

"I'm buzzing to get out there," he said.

"The boys have had a tremendous start and it's been really difficult watching them do well and not being involved. I'm looking forward to helping out as much as I can.

"I was here for the Villa game in pre-season and it was unbelievable, 22,000 for a pre-season game, that's frightening.

"When football's going well your life goes well. I take my football very seriously and coming to a new club where I want to make an impression, I just want to be flying into tackles and chasing people down at Molineux, hopefully that day comes soon.

"I didn't expect to come here and be playing 50 games straight away. It's a big step up from League Two.

"I'm confident in my own ability but I'm not stupid at the same time. I'm not going to come here and be the best player, that was never in my vision, I'm here to come and learn from players who've proved themselves at this level.

"I've done that from the sidelines and now I'm looking forward to playing with them."
