McCarey will have an FA hearing next week, as the investigation into a failed drug test for a non-performance enhancing substance concludes.

The 23-year-old faces a six-month suspension if allegations of drug taking are proven and Jackett told of how the shot-stopper had come back to pre-season training in determined mood.

The Wolves chief said: "It's been quite a tough time for Aaron over the months where they've been obviously gathering information and he's been on tenterhooks, really.

"He's come back very fit and very determined and is training really hard. I'm sure a conclusion to it next week will be good for him and good for the club."

Kuszczak's exit and McCarey's uncertain immediate future leaves just Carl Ikeme as Wolves' only senior goalkeeper, with 20-year-old Jonathan Flatt in reserve.

Kuszczak, who made 13 appearances and kept six clean sheets last season when Ikeme was injured, was offered a one-year deal by Wolves.

But the Polish international, formerly of Albion and Manchester United, opted for two-year terms at Birmingham City.

Jackett said: "I was disappointed he didn't sign but, obviously, Tomasz was looking for a longer contract and first-team football.

"With those two things in mind, he's decided to take the Birmingham offer. I understand that and we do thank him for what he's done.

"In the games that Carl Ikeme missed last year, he was very consistent and we got a good points total out of those games.

"Just generally, he contributed to the group. He's a very positive character and very well liked.

"But, from our point of view, he's been offered a longer contract and probably has more potential to play in the first-team with Birmingham.

"We wish him all the best, we'll make sure the grass doesn't grow under our feet and we move on quickly."
