Wolves captain Danny Batth said laying a wreath in memory of Sir Jack Hayward, before Saturday's emotional win over Blackpool, was a "special moment" for him.

The centre-back placed the flowers next to the goal at the former North Bank end of Molineux, accompanied by under-eights academy player Caden Voice, as Wolves paid tribute to their former owner.

And Batth said: "It was sad for everyone to lose someone like Sir Jack and I think the community of Wolverhampton came out in force to show what he meant.

"It was a great tribute from everyone before the game to mark a great man and all the service he has given both to the club and the community.

"It was a fitting tribute and just what he deserves and for me to lay the wreath was a special moment.

"That was a time when players and fans of both clubs put the football to one side for a minute and everyone paid their respects."

Late goals from Dave Edwards and new boy Benik Afobe ensured Wolves honoured Sir Jack's memory with a 2-0 win.

"We knew that Blackpool would come and set up like they did and make it difficult for us," said Batth.

"It is never easy to play a team down the bottom who are fighting for their lives and the pressure is on us to take the game to them.

"We stuck to the task and got our rewards in the end."

Afobe netted his first goal for the club on debut after coming off the bench.

"Benik is a bright player and wanted to get involved straight away," added Batth.

"I think his arrival takes a bit of the burden off (Nouha) Dicko and when you see the two link up it gives the fans something to be excited about.

"It's another good win but we have all seen so quickly how momentum can come and go so we need to be focusing on the next game. We managed to cap a special day off with a win and that is what everyone wanted to see."
