Head coach Kenny Jackett confirmed after Saturday’s stormy 1-1 draw against Celta Vigo that he wants to hold onto the 19-year-old forward, who came on for the final 13 minutes.

Clayton has had several days training with Wolves after a move to Sunderland broke down over Crewe's compensation demands of £1m.

But he is well known to Wolves recruitment staff Kevin Thelwell and Stuart Webber and Jackett said: "I'll speak to him first and see where we are.

"Whether that's a prolonged trial or another game, we'll see.

"Max has completed his week and Kevin Thelwell was here on Saturday as well to see him.

"We'll talk about the situation with him; he had a decent week and looks a very good footballer.

"And although he didn't have much time out there, I don't think he looked out of place.

"We'll talk to him and his advisors – it's certainly a situation where we need to sum up.

"I did think he didn't look out of place and looking at the lad, he has a very good pedigree.

"As a Nantwich boy, the likes of our scouting people Stuart Webber and Kevin Thelwell know him very well."

Meanwhile, Leon Clarke and Jack Price are expected to be available for the big kick-off against Norwich despite missing Saturday's game with respective back and Achilles injuries from the friendly at Oxford.

"Both are expected to train on Tuesday, so we'll have a full week with them," said Jackett.

"Both may have had outside chances had it been a league game on Saturday but I didn't want to risk them.

"Bakary Sako has a groin injury and will be fit in the middle of the week.

"Tommy Rowe will train in the week after the Norwich game."
