The head coach's reign has opened in low-key fashion with two scoreless games, including a first-round KO from the Capital One Cup at the hands of League Two Morecambe.

He will be hoping for a first win of the campaign from a game sure to be given an emotional charge by the tributes being planned for much-loved former winger Dave Wagstaffe, following his death earlier this week.

But a rush of early injuries, which led to the club fielding one of their youngest ever first-team starting XIs at Morecambe, exposed the weaknesses in Wolves' heavily thinned-out squad.

Chief executive Jez Moxey said: "We are making offers as we speak to acquire the type of players who will fit our new structure.

"You can never tell whether something is going to happen sooner or later but we are aware of the need to strengthen the squad – and we will do so."

Moxey acknowledged how the future of some of the club's high-earners who Wolves are trying to move on could have an influence on their plans.

Striker Kevin Doyle was brought back into the firstteam picture at Morecambe and there is still the prospect of the Ireland international being left "stranded" at Molineux if a sale cannot be agreed.

Tongo Doumbia has completed a season-long loan to French side Valenciennes while the permanently-injured Razak Boukari is said to be of interest to Sochaux.

"We're pushing on with our own plans to recruit regardless at the moment," said Moxey.

"We've made clear how we intend to go forward from here and we're not suddenly going to change that strategy."

Wolves, meanwhile, have been in touch with the Wagstaffe family to finalise their commemoration of one of the club's most popular former stars before kick-off which will most likely take the form of a minute's ovation.
